Protecting Your Family

Families and individuals throughout North America are facing difficult economic times. But as they go through their day-to-day challenges, many of them are neglecting to protect their futures:

  • Eight-in-10 Canadian households own life insurance half of these households say they do not have enough life insurance

It's Time to Reverse These Trends
Family by family, individual by individual, WFG financial professionals are changing the way people at all income levels secure their future and protect their loved ones. And we can help you preserve your family's standard of living in the event that something were to happen to you or your spouse.

WFG offers life insurance solutions with your needs in mind:

Term life insurance: Term is the least expensive way to prepare for life's unexpected events over a short term.

Permanent life insurance: Choose from whole or universal life, for a great way to build cash value while protecting the people you care about in the event of an untimely death. The cash value, depending on the type of permanent life insurance you choose, can steadily accumulate and be available to you for your child’s education, business opportunities or to supplement retirement income.

Purchasing the right life insurance is one of the most important decisions you can make. A WFG financial professional can perform a WFG Financial Needs Analysis with you to find the right solution for your family.

Segregated Funds (SEG funds): SEG funds are often described as "mutual funds with an insurance wrapper." Much like mutual funds, money invested in a SEG fund is pooled to purchase a portfolio of securities, and the value of that portfolio will change in response to the performance of those underlying securities.

In addition to the advantages that come with mutual funds, SEG funds also offer added benefits including:

  • Life Insurance - SEG funds offer a guaranteed death benefit.
  • Estate Preservation - SEG funds are excluded from an estate if there is a named beneficiary. Proceeds are not subject to certain estate fees or probate procedures.
  • Principal Guarantee- SEG funds provide extra protection against loss due to poor market performance. Depending on the SEG fund, investors are guaranteed to get back at least a minimum percentage of the amount that they originally invested (less withdrawals).
  • Maturity Guarantee Resets - Segregated fund families let investors lock in their market gains and reset their maturity guarantee amounts on a regular basis.

Retirement Strategies

When it comes to retirement, many people feel as if they’re on a treadmill going nowhere. The recent recession has reduced retirement portfolios, and the day-to-day financial obligations make saving challenging. The possibility that a person may outlive his or her savings is very real:

  • In 2009, just 37% of Canadians are very confident they will have enough money to live on in retirement20
  • It's projected that half of middle income Canadians born between 1945 and 1970 will experience a drop in living standards of at least 25 percent when they retire21
