Jeffery Roth on a Kayak

Mission Before Commission

Jeffery Roth, a World Financial Group (WFG) insurance agent, grew up in a military family, where his father’s career kept the family on the move. Inspired by the example of service he saw at home, Jeffery enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school and spent the next decade learning what it means to put the mission ahead of himself and everything else. The Marine Corps taught him to show up, adapt and never quit, providing the resilience and character that define extraordinary people.

By the end of his military career, Jeffery was a Marine Corps instructor, a husband and a father of two daughters. But like many service members preparing for civilian life, he faced a difficult question: What comes next?

"With the skill set I had, the most natural path was probably law enforcement," Jeffery said. "But after nearly 10 years, I was ready for something different — something where I could still serve people and make an impact without the physical demands."

On the advice of the Marine Corps' transition program, Jeffery created a LinkedIn profile, where a WFG agent reached out. Curious about the opportunity, he agreed to learn more. What followed was a new mission. Through WFG, Jeffery found a way to continue serving others, helping families build financial security while building a business that helped to[SG1]  support his growing family and education. The mission changed, but the values remained the same.

A Lesson in Financial Foundations

When Jeffery first started his journey with WFG, what surprised him more than the business model was the mirror it held up to his own life.

“It kind of opened the floodgates. There was a lot of financial information I never learned. I realized this wasn't only going to benefit my family, but the people around me as well,” he said.

Like many young adults, Jeffery entered adulthood without much financial education. At 18, he knew how to serve his country, but financial budgeting wasn’t part of the training.

“I didn’t know about budgeting or life insurance, I just knew they were important,” Jeffery said.. Before working with any clients, new WFG agents must earn their license, a process that involves dedicated training alongside experienced agents on the team. For Jeffery, getting trained and licensed gave him a new beginning—he was able to serve his community a different way.

As he worked through appointments with family members and relatives, letting them know what he was learning and how it applied to their lives, he started to see his own financial picture just as clearly. “When I got out of the Marine Corps, I was living paycheck to paycheck,” he says. “Having a family of three or four, not knowing if you’re going to be able to pay the bills or what to do if medical expenses come up out of thin air—that causes a lot of stress. Having the financial foundation, the core principles, was the biggest thing I learned when I first started.”

A New Way to Serve

Jeffery is now a licensed independent agent building his own business with the support and platform WFG provides. His approach is rooted in a phrase he carries from WFG’s culture: mission before commission.

“The mission is to help that family with whatever it is they need,” he explained. “Whether that’s helping them better understand their insurance needs or providing general financial education, I don’t mind spending time helping people understand basic budgeting concepts because I was at that place at one point in my life, too.”

That personal experience shapes every conversation he has. Jeffery understands what it’s like to feel uncertain about the future, which is why he focuses first on education.

“It’s fulfilling to help a family get clarity on their financial strategy. As long as they get value out of me sitting down with them, even if no business results from the meeting, that’s a win for me.”

Always Moving Forward

Life hasn’t slowed down for Jeffery. He’s a father of three daughters, with a fourth on the way. He’s about to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration and he’s completing it while working a full-time job and growing his WFG business. It’s a lot to carry at once, and he’s the first to say so. But he’s also clear on the philosophy that keeps him going.

“The biggest thing is just not quitting,” he says. “If you quit, you basically cut yourself short.”

For Jeffery, the best three qualities a WFG agent can have are coachability, a client-first mindset and a commitment to lifelong learning. Because, as he puts it, finance is always changing. It’s a philosophy forged long before he ever sat down with a client. A Marine learns to adapt, to keep showing up and to put the mission first. Jeffery Roth is still doing exactly that.
