Aaron Taber and his aunt

When the Call Comes, Aaron Taber Is Ready

Aaron Taber knows what it feels like to watch illness reshape a family. His father — a government employee in Canada’s capital — also ran his own small business in the family garage to supplement their income. When Aaron’s mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) and could no longer work outside the home, that second income became essential.

“My mom was able to retire because my dad created extra income through his part-time business,” explained Aaron. “He was very clear with us growing up. Food was put on the table through his government salary, and then anything recreational was paid for by his business. My father’s example is why I have always been interested in entrepreneurship.”

That early lesson about financial preparation was tucked into Aaron’s subconscious. At 20, he bought a residential and commercial painting franchise and discovered he liked running a business but not painting. One day, Aaron found himself providing a quote for a potential customer who was a World Financial Group (WFG) agent. He was recruited, and thirteen years later, Aaron continues to run a successful financial services business as a licensed independent agent through WFG.

Aaron’s continued passion for the business stems from the lives he impacts every day through his work. Not long after becoming an agent, he experienced that impact firsthand after a call from his aunt.

What Happens When Coverage Isn’t There

Aaron and his aunt were very close, and on that call, she got straight to the point. She had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Her bank had already turned her down for life insurance. She called Aaron because she was out of options.

Through his work as a WFG life insurance agent, Aaron got her covered. When she passed away, not long after her diagnosis, her family quickly received financial protection from her life insurance policy.

That was an experience of clarity for Aaron that no training or sales milestone ever could bring. His work with WFG had put him in the right place, with access to the right products, at the right time. His aunt had almost gone without, and her only son would have been responsible for her financial debt.

“Helping provide that coverage for her during one of the hardest moments of her life changed the way I viewed this business,” he said. “That’s when I realized how important this work truly is.”

Aaron has seen versions of this story play out throughout his career, including with other members of his family. It sharpens how he approaches every client conversation.

“I don’t want clients to be sold,” he says. “I want them to be educated.” He believes his role is to help families truly understand their options and the importance of protecting their financial future.

The People Who Depend On You Showing Up

That sense of obligation extends to the agents on Aaron’s team as much as the clients he serves. He has built his organization the way his father built his business. It’s held together by genuine relationships. The support, he says, happens naturally when you actually enjoy the people you work with.

“You’re not like, ‘Oh, I’ve got to call my team,’” he says. “You’re like, ‘I want to call my friends.’”

For prospective agents who want to build a real business, he points to three things: resourcefulness, hunger and discipline. The discipline piece is the one people underestimate, he says. Sticking to a schedule when something easier is available is where most people become discouraged. “Booking appointments is easy,” he says, “but watching television is easier.”

What keeps Aaron showing up, beyond the discipline, is the weight of knowing what’s at stake. He has seen what happens when coverage isn’t there. His own childhood was shaped by a father who understood that a single salary alone wasn't enough for their family.

Not every person will be prepared when a crisis arrives, but Aaron Taber has spent 13 years making sure more of them are.
